We have exciting news! Los Angeles-based artist Sarah Aspinall is sharing her fantastic home projects with us!

C5 at Home is delighted to share these fabulous creative projects from illustrator, designer and artist extraordinaire Sarah Aspinall. Sarah is a close friend of C5 Studios and it’s very likely (our fingers and toes are crossed!) that she’ll be our very first Artist in Residence here at C5 Studios - this means that she’ll be a resident in our artist studios working on her latest project, teaching workshops and getting to know you all!

Sarah has published a number of books internationally, including the popular Penguins Love series of which the first book, Penguins Love Colors, was the first-ever title to be nominated more than once for the One Book Colorado Award and has been regularly featured as a read-aloud on the BBC’s Lunchtime Stories.

Sarah is inspired by her love of animals, obsession with food, and her upbringing in the English countryside with her seven brothers and sisters.  Homeliness and humor are underlying themes in her practice as an artist as well as a storyteller. For more information about Sarah and to see more of her wonderful work visit her website

Sarah says “In the hope of bringing some variety, extra color and general cheer into your day, I have been busy designing projects for you and your children to make at home. Each project is good for any age, especially those in the 1st - 5th grade bracket. Please note, children may need a helping hand, particularly when it comes to things like cutting cardboard.

I have designed the projects with current circumstances in mind, and assuming you have a stash of basic art supplies (and a pile of recycling), the materials should be things you have easy access to.”

Check out Sarah’s awesome projects below:

Parrot Painting!

Some basic art materials and a stick from your garden or walk in the neighborhood, are all you need to make a beautiful parrot painting! This project can be worked on in stages over a few days, or throughout the day with little breaks here and there to allow for paint and glue to dry. Excellent for 3rd-5th grade. 1st and 2nd will love it too, especially with a little help :)

Allow roughly 3hrs to complete this project (not including clean up and drying times).

Giant LEGO Box!

Oh look, it’s a surprisingly large LEGO brick. But hang on a minute, IS it? No! It’s a box in disguise so you can stash your secret things inside!

You will need a sturdy cardboard box with a lid, some paint, paper cups, newspaper and other basic materials to make this project. It takes a bit of time and patience to make this giant LEGO box, but stick with it because it’ll be so worth all of your hard work!

Allow at least 3 hrs to make this project, not including drying times.

Make a million-dollar masterpiece inspired by one of the most famous artists of the 21st century! Learn how to make simple printing blocks with string, cardboard and a kitchen cloth.

This a great project for children of all ages and takes about 2.5 hours total, spread out over 2 - 3 sessions (due to drying times).
