“Surrealist Parlor Games” with Naomi

Friday, May 31st, 2024 - 7pm - 9pm

Arrive 30 min early to place orders from the menu.

Did you know that some of the most recognized and celebrated Surrealist artists spent their free time together playing art games in the dark bars and street cafes of Paris in the 1920's?  Artists like Marcel Duchamp, Francis Picabia and Man Ray knew that getting playful with their art while spending time with their friends was a GREAT way to support their creativity!

We'll do our best to re-create the vibe of 1920's Paris right here in Bishop, giving ourselves permission to play, create and collaborate together!  Through games such as such as "Cadavre Exquis" (Exquisite Corpse) we will explore how some of the legends of Surrealism found inspiration for their incredible ideas.  French berets, wine drinking and 1920's style clothing are welcome, but not required!  Come tend your creativity through PLAY!

Located at 1903 Taphouse & Co. 175 N Main St. Bishop, CA

Register below using our sliding scale payment structure. Walk-ins are cash only and will be added depending on space.

Clubs at C5 Studios

C5 presents Better Human Book Club.jpg

The Better Human Book Club

The Better Human Book Club is a book club with a difference!  We steer our choice of books to cover issues including racism, nature connection, social justice, environmentalism, parenting, wellness and anything else that we feel called to grapple with as a group in our quest to become better humans.

A wonderful benefit of taking part in a group like this with a local base is that we can support and encourage one another and together create a more engaged, connected and conscious community around us!

You can share YOUR suggestions for topics, issues or specific books to be explored in the Better Human Book Club HERE!

The Better Human Book Club is BACK for Spring 2024! HOORAY!

Our next book of choice is Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act: A Way of Being.

Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act: A Way of Being

"Creativity is not a rare ability. It is not difficult to access. Creativity is a fundamental aspect of being human." - Rick Rubin, The Creative Act: A Way of Being

In Rick Rubin's new and timely book, there is a gentle challenge for us to reconsider our concept of creativity, arguing that creativity should be at core of our Being; not the periphery. While also being a rare book, one that is entirely born from personal experience, aiming at transformation rather than the mere sharing of ideas. Having spent a lifetime producing some of America's most celebrated artist's, a list that includes artists such as diverse as the Beastie Boys and Adele, to recent work with Imagine Dragons and Kanye West; he speaks as someone who has lived his message.

Join us on Wednesday nights, from 6 - 8pm as we explore both a book, and a voice so prescient for our times.

Our first session launches on Wednesday, April 17th 6-8pm, with subsequent sessions on 4/24, 5/1, 5/8 and 5/15 (5 sessions total)

This round of The Better Human Book Club is hosted by Kyle Osland.

About Kyle:
My life has always been profoundly shaped by the Eastern Sierra. My first visits here began shortly after I was born, and I have been in a long dialogue with it ever since. Even to this present day as I see its unfolding impact on our daughters, a next generation who have formed their own experiences with it. It is a journey that really began in my early twenties, after losing both my parents early to battles with cancer, I spent the next eight years in theological studies at Azusa Pacific University, graduating with a dual masters  degree. Soon after, my wife and I moved to Crowley Lake, again animated by a land we loved and a personal vision of raising our daughters here. Those years were extremely idyllic years, that we felt fortunate to extend as moved to Bishop, for their high school years and my personal opportunity to be the programs director for Wild Iris.

This Book Club is donation-based and registration and a one-time donation is required to attend all the sessions for each book.  If you are able to make a donation please do, but also know that we will not turn anyone away due to lack of payment.

Stitch & Bitch!

A monthly crafting circle

Every third Tuesday of the month 5:30 – 7:30 pm (next session is Tuesday, March 19th)

Sometimes called Sip and Stitch, this circle/club will offer tea and cookies as well.

Join the club! Free to join for C5 Studios members or pay a one-time fee of $10 and come to as many subsequent sessions as you like!
