Intro to Drawing and Painting
Ages 8-13
Instructor: Naomi Hart Johnson
Thursdays 3.45pm - 5.30pm
Weekly from April 2nd 2020 - May 7th 2020 - POSTPONED until further notice
In this program our young artists will investigate some big questions within art making, including “Why do people draw?” “What is art?” “Can art communicate?” and “What kind of artist am I?”
We will explore how we can use the marks we make and the lines we draw to record what we see around us, but also to express our emotions and ideas. Our young artists will experiment with communicating their own ideas and experiences through the marks that they make and the art that they create. They will experiment with a wide range of different art-making techniques and will collaborate as a team to discuss and improve their skills, and to create art together if they wish.
They will play with elements of art such as line, shape, form, pattern, texture, tone and color, exploring the effect of using these elements in a variety of ways to create their own unique works of art. They will look at inspiring examples of how other artists have used different ideas, techniques and materials to make their art.
Techniques used will include mark-making with pencil, charcoal, pastel, ink, monotype print-making, painting with watercolor and acrylic paint.
