Linoleum Stamp Making & Wilderness with Jessie Sheldon
Join us in an artistic ode to the unique ecosystems of the Sierra! In this class, we will explore the breadth of species that reside in the wilderness areas surrounding Bishop through stamp-making.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create mini stamps of species found in the surrounding wilderness areas from mountain yellow-legged frogs to California golden trout. What is wilderness? What role does biodiversity play in wilderness? Or what on earth is abronia alpina? We will dive into these questions and more while gaining technical printmaking skills.
Our collective prints will come together as a collaborative stamp collage, representative of the complex ecosystems within the Sierra. Participants can take their stamps home to print more of these wild species onto love letters, grocery lists, important paperwork, and more.
Ages 13+
About the Instructor:
Jessie Sheldon was the 2024 Voices of the Wilderness Artist in Residence in Alaska's Nellie Juan-College Fiord Wilderness Study Area, hosted by Chugach National Forest. In this residency, she got to ponder the relationship between wilderness and art for weeks on end while working alongside wilderness managers. This may have included picking up a lot of slugs.
Jessie is passionate about the confluence of art and the environment, and how each field has the ability to enhance the other.
Her biggest art piece to date can be found in Lone Pine in the Eastern Sierra Interagency Visitor Center, in a mural celebrating the unique landscapes and ecosystems surrounding the Owens Valley.
Jessie finds joy carving prints, ice skating on frozen lakes, bushwhacking, and swimming in cold water.

Hand-Building Ceramics with Bart Godett and Diane Hedding
In this workshop we will use basic hand-building ceramics techniques to build confidence in exploring clay and its properties. Participants will have the opportunity to make one or two (depending on complexity) fairly small pots, for example a mug or a bean pot or both. You will hand-build your creation and it will be glazed for you, creating a finished ceramic piece of your own design.
All materials and equipment needed will be provided, however if you have your own clay tools you are more than welcome to bring them. This class will focus on learning about clay properties, texture, and pot creation. Finished glazed pots will be available to collect from C5 Studios 2 weeks after the class, allowing time for the work to be fired and glazed.
The cost of this workshop is inclusive of a materials fee of $10 per participant to cover the cost of the specialist materials required.
This workshop is for ages 15+.
This class is limited to 8 places.
About the Instructors:
Bart is a ceramics artist and educator that lives in Big Pine. Bart is originally from Ridgecrest and has lived in the Owens Valley for 35 years. He has a studio at his house where he has worked on pottery from very large to quite small pots. His latests interest involve heavily textured clay typically in non- round forms experimenting in shape and functionality. He has enjoyed sharing his "odd" pottery style in workshops up and down the valley. I was drawn to ceramics at 19 my first semester in college. As he has moved from place to place, he has been able to enjoy expanding his ceramics education in Lancaster, Bakersfield, Lone Pine, Incline Village. At first it was all about throwing pots on a wheel, from tiny to large. Now he enjoys his creativity while camping in the wilderness. Nature inspires.
Diane Hedding has enjoyed creating in clay for over 10 years. She has an Associates of Arts degree and spent three plus years teaching a community ceramics class at Cerro Coso college in Bishop. Prior to relocation to Bishop five years ago she worked as a lab assistant in the ceramics program at the local parks and recreation department. She is also a juried member of the Ventura County Potters Guild.

Make Your Own Tunnel Book - A 3D Diorama workshop with Marijke
Join this class to create your own mini diorama filled with your art! We will be walking through how to create a tunnel book and then everyone will get the chance to develop their own little world to put inside of their tunnel books.
These 3D artworks date back to the mid 18th century and were originally inspired by extravagant theater sets.
In this class, we will be drawing, collaging, and cutting to create the imagery within our mini ‘sets.’ This project does involve using X-acto knives to cut out intricate details to create the windows between your panels.
Take part in this class and leave with your own scene, displayed in a dynamic, three dimensional design. This experience is a way to deepen your understanding of layers, depth, perspective, and to have fun shaping and building your own microcosm!

Diaristic Drawings
A drawing workshop with Lauren Newey Turner
Saturday, July 19th, 10.30am - 12.30pm
OUR APOLOGIES, THIS WORKSHOP HAS NOT MET THE MINIMUM REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT AND IS BEING CANCELLED. WE HOPE TO RESCHEDULE FOR A LATER DATE. SORRY FOR ANY DISAPPOINTMENT!
Sometimes, as artists we lack content. “I don’t know what to draw,” is a common statement coming from artists. However, if we look back at our day, we can find some meaning that might go overlooked, unless we are able to spend a moment of reflection.
Drawing the happenings of your day not only provides bottomless content to draw, it also gives you the opportunity to process your experiences and gain better understanding of how certain interactions might affect you. You come away from the exercise with lots of drawings and often with insight on your emotional state.
This workshop is for adults and young people aged 12+

Bring a partner or come solo and we’ll partner-up! We will start with very basic movements which will be refined and polished with styling cues as we advance. Each class will have a review of prior skills and a portion of the class will be dedicated to progression and combinations as folks become more comfortable with the movement.
Salsa dancing is FUN, anyone can do it with the right tricks and tools. Your teacher is there to guide you into a hip-swiveling, smile-bringing… expression of mind, body and soul.
About your instructor:
Hallie Vickers moved to Bishop 25 years ago with a love for rock climbing and the mountains. Several years later she moved to Santa Barbara to pursue a nursing degree… it was in Santa Barbara that she immersed herself in Salsa dancing, ultimately dancing and performing with a local Latin dance company, Salsa Barbara. Upon returning to Bishop to settle down, she brought that love of Salsa home with her, teaching Salsa classes and fusion dance classes for many years prior to diving into family life and embracing a career as a RN Care Coordinator. Embroidering with Bits & Beads - Adult Summer Art Camp with Marijke
Embroidering with Bits & Beads
An Adult Summer Art Camp with Marijke
July 15th - 17th, 2025 - 5pm - 7:30pm
Jealous of all of the kid’s art camps that pop up this time of year? Why are there no summer art camps for adults? We thought the same thing.
Join this immersive, three day adult summer art camp full of beads, embroidering, and brilliance!
In this camp, we will learn multiple techniques on how to embellish with beads and have the space to create a wearable accessory as well as a statement wall hanging.
Items that are embroidered with beads are expensive and for good reason. It takes a lot of time, energy, and knowledge to hand embroider.
Take part in this captivating, three day art camp and leave with a brand new skill that can elevate any scrap of fabric.
All of the supplies will be provided by C5 Studios. Many bead options will be available, however participants may bring any supplies they may have and want to use. Ages 15+

Drawing from Dreams with Lauren - cancelled
Drawing from Dreams
A dream interpretation and illustration workshop with Lauren Newey Turner
Wednesday, July 2nd, 5.30pm - 7.30pm
APOLOGIES! THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED AT A LATER DATE
Our subconscious has a wisdom that we are unable to access with our conscious minds. Sometimes we are granted little nuggets of this wisdom while we sleep, in the form of dreams. Sometimes we are even lucky enough to remember our dreams and reflect on the hilarity and horror that our minds were able to generate.
In this workshop the participants will be asked to bring in a past dream that the dreamer will illustrate, and then will have the opportunity to share with the group in order to gain greater insight on the encoded messaging within the story. We will explore dream symbolism and archetypes, and practice analysis and interpretation. No dream is too boring to share!
This workshop is for adults and young people aged 15+.

How to Hand Braid Mats with Marijke CANCELLED
Join this class to learn how to upcycle all of those old t-shirts that either don’t fit, have a little stain on them, or suffer from a tiny hole. Fret no further, no need to send it to a landfill.
In this class, everyone will learn how to process old t-shirts into t-shirt yarn and create an aesthetic mat. Once everyone understands how to process their shirts, they will learn how to braid and simultaneously weave a mat. All participants are highly encouraged to bring 3-6 old t-shirts they may be needing to clear from their closet, but there will be some provided as well. The best t-shirts to bring are the ones on the thicker side.
This is a project that can be as small or as large as you would like to create it. The end result is a squishy mat that feels wonderful under your feet, could protect your table from a hot pan, or could even hang on your wall. Crafted from excess material into a charming textile.
Attend this class for an enjoyable evening of upcycling and transforming trash into treasure!
This workshop is for ages 11+.
