This mural blends fantasy and reality, imagination and place. Set against the familiar mountain skyline, the artists’ Dungeons & Dragons characters gather around a campfire - symbols of friendship, collaboration, and shared story. Scattered throughout the piece are subtle references to Eastside Student Center and the local landscape, including local Indigenous references integrated into the scene.
By weaving the “inside” of the student center into the “outside” world, this piece reflects how youth at ESC see themselves as part of the land and community that surrounds them. Throughout the creative process, students explored how composition and placement of images can communicate feeling and narrative—ultimately crafting a scene that honors connection: to self, to one another, and to Payahuunadü.
